I have the best job ever. It’s also one that involves a lot of responsibilities. I work with children.
I’m a teacher’s aid at a child development center and since it’s a Christian school, us staff members have the privilege of making Jesus a part of our duties. We can freely talk about Him, teach about Him, and make Him a part of our daily lives. I am incredibly thankful for that.
However, we have the responsibility at the school to teach the children biblical values. There’s worship time every morning where the teachers take turns telling stories from the Bible each week. On Fridays there is a staff meeting which the pastor of the church usually opens up with devotions. I like how he continues to remind us that when teaching children about God and telling stories from the Bible, we shouldn’t take it lightly.
My shift doesn’t start until the afternoon so I haven’t been to the worship time in the morning. I pray the other teachers are communicating the love of God with a strong biblical foundation. I think every teacher (myself included) who has the opportunity to share God with children and use the Bible must take their job very seriously.
Perhaps it’s me but I have been noticing how people go about teaching children about God and explaining stories from the Bible. It’s almost like they’re making the stories sound like either fairy tales or that those stories are there for our own selfish benefit. I would like to make something clear: The Bible is the Word of God. The stories in the Bible, however entertaining or morally upright they are, were written to reflect God’s glory and to drive people to the throne of God. I understand it’s hard sometimes to communicate that with children, especially the younger ones (the age group I work with are around 2 and a half to 6 years old). But I believe that if you truly want to teach children about salvation, repentance, etc. and ask God to help you do that, He’ll help you teach it correctly and open the child’s heart.
The pastor made a good point in that we don’t want children to grow up viewing the Bible as merely a book of good morals. We want them to learn and hopefully understand that, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17 ESV)
“And they were bringing children to him that he might touch them, and the disciples rebuked them. But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, “Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” And he took them in his arms and blessed them, laying his hands on them.” (Mark 10:13-16 ESV)
What is so awesome about the little children is, they don't question, they just BELIEVE!
They have the faith hat GOD wants us to have, without that kind of faith we can not enter the kingdom
of heaven. Incrediable that the little children teach us so much about FAITH…
